Campaign Update & Forecasted Gift Chart

Phase #2 Recap:  During the first two phases, the Building for Our Second Century Campaign exceeded its funding objectives. Together we've raised nearly $3M through one-time gifts, pledges, in-kind gifts, and planned gifts.

  • The first two phases of this campaign were based on faith. But today, we’re not selling faith anymore—our path is realistic and actionable.
  • Because of those who gave on faith—particularly those from the classes of 1967 and 1968—the second phase of the Building for Our Second Century Campaign successfully exceeded its objectives, securing 6% more commitments than needed at 19% over goal. We would likely to give special thanks to Bill Ketchum, Jeff Arntson, and Bill Deeks for their generosity during these important early stages.
  • In-kind gifts are at least as powerful as cash gifts—if not much more so.
  • With a roadmap, we now know that we must increase our goal to avoid unnecessarily burdening the undergraduate chapter with debt.

Phase #3  Reserve Analysis. We’ve done our homework. After reviewing our projected financial health, Alpha-Lambda can reasonably afford a $2.5M mortgage. Assuming an $8.5M budget for construction and furnishing, we must raise at least $3M in new and upgraded commitments.

  • Success in our third phase relies on participation and generosity. The third phase of the Building for Our Second Century Campaign will require roughly $3M to build anew during the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • This final raise relies on securing at least 64 new or upgraded gifts of $5,000 or more. Excluding the top three giving levels, this represents an average gift of ~$20,000.
  • Any funds raised beyond what is required will help to pay down the mortgage (est. $2.5M) more quickly. Planned gifts—or other gifts that mature outside of the campaign period—will be used to fund a reserve fund or support academic merit- or needs-based scholarships.

Philanthropic Capacity. Our goal is attainable. In partnership with DonorSearch—a leader in philanthropic analytics—Alpha-Lambda screened 1,339 alumni, conservatively estimating a cumulative wealth-based capacity of more than $107M.

  • DonorSearch is a leader in philanthropic data analytics. Their estimates—which are highly conservative and based only on publicly available data—include more than 1,339 Alpha-Lambda alumni.
  • As a general rule, you want at least three times as many prospects as you need in gifts. At each giving level required for this third phase, Alpha Lambda has more than 13x the number of gifts required.
  • Of those screened, half (50%) had a wealth-based philanthropic capacity of $10,000 or more. And, cumulatively, Alpha-Lambda’s alumni population has a philanthropic capacity of more than $100M.

The Months AheadThe next six months are critical. Your support will ensure we meet our funding goals over the next six months, allowing us to complete construction during the 2025-2026 academic year. Because of your investment, Alpha-Lambda will have an affordable home befitting the caliber of men we hope to attract, that will become the model for the Oregon State fraternal community.
